The hospital did not have enough data of the magnitude of IAD problem. During 2016, 36% of incontinent patients at Hospital de Barcelona developed IAD during hospital stay.

Solution

From July 1, 2017, all incontinent patients admitted to the ward, until reaching a total of 125 patients per group, received incontinence care either through traditional methods or using Swash Perineum Wipes.

The study was conducted in the Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties units UH13 and UH14 of Hospital de Barcelona-SCIAS. It is an experimental, observational, and descriptive study aimed at assessing the incidence of IAD in two groups of incontinent patients who received different methods of perineal hygiene.
